Travel With Intent posted the inspiring quote:
“People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the people they ignore at home.”
– Dagobert D. Runes
Which immediately took me back to a trip my husband and I took to St. Augustine, FL. We loved it there. The area is rich in history and scenery.
What we loved the most was the time we spent talking to the locals or visiting with the other tourists and learning their stories. Sitting in the wine shop for hours listening to the owner tell us tales of the town and his other home located in no other than the Mountains of North Carolina. Meeting the couple that had sailed down to St. Augustine years ago, docking their boat and never going home. The dress shop owner who used to be a personal shopper to the Rockefellers.
Oprah says all the time that: “Everyone has a story”
Hubby and I talked then about what happens on vacation that we suddenly slow down enough to take the time to actually talk to people. Listen to things that make them unique. People in St. Augustine are no more fascinating than they are here in Charlotte, we just don’t take the time when we are trapped in the hustle bustle of our daily lives to learn about those right around us. It’s a shame really.
