25 Questions – Blog Hop

Amanda over at The $900 Facebook Pony posted these 25 blog hop questions and I figured…sure…why not?

  1. Why horses? Why not a sane sport, like soccer or softball or curling?
    1. Because as a kid I always wanted to ride and then as an adult there was no one to tell me no.  And for some, once it gets in your blood there is no turning back.
  2. What was your riding “career” like as a kid?
    1. Nonexistent – perhaps the occasional trail ride on a rented horse
  3. If you could go back to your past and buy ONE horse, which would it be?
    1. Pax the Quarter Horse from Sugaree Ranch
  4. What disciplines have you participated in?
    1. Trail riding, schooling dressage, very light cow work.  I’m reluctant to say I am  part of any discipline other than pleasure riding because I have no show or competition goals.  Is FUN a discipline?
  5. What disciplines do you want to participate in some day?
    1. None come to mind.
  6. Have you ever bought a horse at auction or from a rescue?
    1. Nope
  7. What was your FIRST favorite horse breed – the one you loved most as a kid?
    1. Paint
  8. If you could live and ride in any country in the world, where would it be?
    1. Scotland
  9. Do you have any horse-related regrets?
    1. Overall no…but I’ve done some things in the name of “training” that I am not proud of
  10. If you could ride with any trainer in the world, ASIDE from your current trainer, who would it be?
    1. Tom Curtin
  11. What is one item on your horse-related bucket list?
    1. After doing the cattle drive this Summer we really checked off a lot of our bucket list so I’m kind of re-examining that now
  12. If you were never able to ride again, would you still have horses?
    1. Probably, the make my yard look pretty
  13. What is your “biggest fantasy” riding goal?
    1. Long Riding
  14. What horse do you feel like has taught you the most?
    1. Tucker
  15. If you could change one thing about your current horse/riding situation, what would it be?
    1. We’d have more land
  16. If you could compete at any horse show/venue in your home country, where would it be?
    1. Since I don’t really care about competing, I am applying this to trail riding and my dream destination in the US is Bryce Canyon
  17. If you could attend any competition in the world as a spectator, what would be your top choice?
    1. Legacy of Legends
  18. Have you ever thought about quitting horses?
    1. Daily (JK) but yes I have considered that once Tucker’s riding career is over so may mine be
  19. If you could snap your fingers and change one thing about the horse industry, what would it be?
    1. Across the board the horse’s welfare would be first
  20. What’s the dumbest horse-related thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well?
    1. I bought Tucker as an untrained 2 year old and had very little horse experience
  21. As you get older, what are you becoming more and more afraid of?
    1. Getting hurt…things take so much longer to heal
  22. What horse-related book impacted you the most?
    1. The Beautiful Jim Key
  23. What personality trait do you value most in a horse and which do you dislike the most?
    1. Most Valued – Sensibility.  Most Disliked – Fearful
  24. What do you love most about your discipline?
    1. The views
  25. What are you focused on improving the most, at the moment?
    1. Being easier for him to carry
