The Changing Seasons – March 2020

Well it has been a month unlike any other….

I suppose I could spend my “Changing Seasons” post writing about the greed, fear, selfishness and incompetence I have seen as a result of this pandemic. OR I could write about the sharing, courage, selflessness and ability I have seen as a result of this pandemic.

But the truth is, I don’t want to write about either. So I will just share this tale with you and let you decide which of your own personal wolves you’d like to feed during this time:

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two “wolves” inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

And then I will say that I am grateful. Grateful for our health, our family (blood & chosen), our jobs, for Spring and for our beautiful property in which we are spending this “shelter in place” order.

And then I will show you the beauty. The beauty that is in all of our worlds. This particular beauty is in my own back yard, but I know that each of my readers has beauty of their own. There for the seeing, if only it is looked for.

      1. Thought it might be. I was stationed at Camp Lejeaune in the 80’s and didn’t get to explore NC like I would have wanted. We made a few trips around the state. My 2 oldest were born there. Thanks again for taking us on your journey. 😊
